Tennis Betting

Unlike most sports that have specific offseasons, online tennis betting fans enjoy the comfort of being able to wager on their favorite sport throughout the entire year. Although there are certain stretches of the year that are more enticing than others, the fact remains that tennis offers sportsbook action regardless of the season. Naturally, those unfamiliar to the scene will need a little help being brought up to speed. So below is a comprehensive guide on the ins and outs of online tennis betting.
You can make the tennis bets you want on the tennis matches you want to see essentially all year round. As there are always tennis tournaments, there are always opportunities to bet on one tennis match or another. The Tennis Betting Season || ATP Tour
The ATP Tour has a long and storied history but it’s not all that relevant. The most important thing to understand is that the ATP is the Association of Tennis Professionals and is the governing body of the sport. They help organize events, the rankings and all other relevant logistics throughout the tennis betting season. Additionally they’re the ones that manage the ATP Tour, or the annual tennis schedule.
In 2009 the ATP underwent some structural changes. Specifically this introduced the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, ATP World Tour 500, and ATP World Tour 250 tier tournaments. This is just a format to differentiate the different levels of tournaments, with the bigger, more prominent events earning the larger number. The Masters 1000 tournaments are the Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris. The level 500 tournaments are Rotterdam, Dubai, Rio, Acapulco, Barcelona, Aegon Championships, Halle, Hamburg, Washington, Beijing, Tokyo, Basel and Vienna.
| Event | Winner’s Ranking Points | Governing Body |
|---|---|---|
| (4) Grand Slam | 2,000 | ITF |
| (1) ATP Finals | 1,100–1,500 | ATP |
| (9) ATP Masters 10000 | 1000 | ATP |
| ATP World Tour 500 series | 500 | ATP |
| ATP World Tour 250 series | 250 | ATP |
| ATP Challenger Tour | 80 to 125 | ATP |
ATP Rankings
The ATP will put out weekly rankings of the professional players, which aims to rank the 20 best players in the world. These rankings are then used to determine qualification for entry and seeding in all tournaments both for singles and doubles. Throughout the online tennis betting season, players accumulate points depending on their performance. These points are added and the player with the most is appointed world No. 1 for that year. Below are the current ranking as of the 21st of April, 2023.
| Rank | Player | Points |

Betting on Tennis Online
The most common type of tennis betting line involves betting on the money line. Betting on the money line is pretty straightforward because you are simply betting on one player to beat another. Alternatively, you can also bet on tennis futures, where you make a wager on who will win any given tournament. Generally a tennis betting matchup will look like the following. Rafael Nadal -1400
Guido Pella +925
Here we can see that Rafael Nadal is a heavy favorite over Guido Pella. Normally the odds start at -110 and will continue to rise depending on how favored a player is. Since Nadal is one of the best in the world, it makes sense to see him so heavily favored. But for -110 tennis odds, you would have to wager $110 in order to be eligible to win $100. But if you wanted to bet Nadal, you would have to wager $1400 in order to be eligible for $100. In short, a $1400 winning bet on Nadal would net you $1500 (the original $1400 plus the $100 in winnings).
On the other hand, a winning bet on Pella would be much more lucrative. In short, a $100 winning bet on Pella would net you $1,025 (the original $100 + the $925 in winnings).
This example is a bit extreme because it features one of the best in the world taking on a contender. But normally these odds are much more even-sided.
